Teenage Angst & Big Feelings

Nearly half of dogs in shelters are between 5 months and 3 years old. Adolescent dogs are the age group most often surrendered by their families.
Surging hormones and a brain that is still rewiring leave many young dogs feeling big emotions with very little impulse control. If your dog is pulling, barking, lunging, chewing everything, or suddenly missing cues that worked last month, you're not alone, and it's not personal.

At any point in time, a multitude of things are affecting your dog's physical and mental experience, and thus their behavior.
Health, sleep, diet, environment, and past experiences all play a part, and what matters most shifts with each life stage. What looks like a problem is usually information.
I can teach you the sometimes incredibly subtle signals dogs deploy, how to answer them in an unthreatening way, and help you understand what drives your individual dog's behavior, so you can respond to the dog in front of you, not the label.

Senior dogs have different needs.
Cognitive decline, hearing loss, pain, and incontinence are common in seniors, and they often get mistaken for behavior problems: restless nights, sudden irritability, new anxiety, accidents in the house, a dog who startles or no longer responds the way they used to.
These are signals, not choices.
I can help you read what your senior is telling you, adjust their home and routines, and keep their world rich at a gentler pace, working alongside your vet.
